FAQs

How much does it cost per season:
Please refer to the current registration form.

How do I add a new member to the team
This applies for team members not registered at beginning of season:
1: Any new players you have need to be registered with the HBA for insurance and other purposes. To register with HBA write their Name, DOB, Address and Phone number on the back of the score sheet before their first match, this will register him/her.

2: You may also need to advise our treasurer so they can follow up on fees.

When does new season start:
Click the link to Season Dates – If this is not up to date Contact the Team Registrations Co-ordinator or President listed under the Office Holders link

Where does the Money go:
SCBC is a not for profit organisation run by unpaid volunteers all proceeds go into the club to pay for, training venues, coaches for teams, trophies, Hawthorn Basketball Association fees, end of season function etc.

How many on a team:
You require a minimum of seven players to form a team – there is no maximum but eight is suggested. If you are having trouble getting 7 by start of the season - Contact the Team Registrations Co-ordinator listed under Office Holders for advice and assistance – they may know of players of the right age seeking a team to play on or possibly allow you to form team if you are sure you will find other players. Remember if you only have 6 players you still pay for 8. If you have more than 8 players - say 9 – then you pay for 9.

Uniforms:
Tops and shorts are organised by the club – socks & shoes are provided by players.
Tops cost $45.00 each, shorts $35.00 – to order uniforms contact the Uniform’s Co-ordinator listed under Office Holders and Assistants:

Can non players train with our team at formal training sessions: THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
The short answer is an emphatic NO – They will not be covered by insurance. Any person training with the team must be registered at the beginning of the season or previously on the back of a score sheet. Team mangers need to ensure non players are not training with the team.

Can People Play Occasionally and Pay Less:
Sorry but the answer is NO – the problem amongst other things – is the administration and follow up of this – we are a volunteer group and chasing such things is too time consuming.

How do I form a team or how does my child join a team:
Contact the Team Registrations Co-ordinator listed under Office Holders for assistance

What about insurance:
The SCBC holds no insurance of its own. Players are covered by the insurance provided by the Hawthorn Basketball Association. For details on the type and level of cover this provides please contact the Hawthorn Basketball Association. It is up to each team to decide if the Hawthorn Basketball Association insurance cover is adequate for your needs and to investigate whether they require any additional type of insurance. The SCBC is not authorised or qualified to provide advice in this area – a qualified person should be contacted by individual teams or individual players if desired.

What is SCBC about:
SCBC is about participation and kids having fun while playing basketball – we hope being a part of SCBC will nurture a love of basketball and/or other sports.

SCBC sounds fantastic – I want to do my bit – are there committee roles available:
We always want to hear from people who are willing to take an office and help out – we believe in succession planning and volunteers are always being sought – if you are interested contact the club president – details are listed under Contact Us.
